Pad saver

Pad savers are thin protective layers placed between the backing pad and the sanding disc or sanding sheet to protect and extend the life of the backing pad when sanding with net or disc abrasives. They reduce friction, heat build-up and adhesive breakdown, limiting wear on both the backing pad and the abrasive. Unlike thicker interface pads, which add cushioning for a softer, more flexible sanding surface, pad savers are primarily a thin foam or felt protector used to shield the backing pad—especially when working with coarse abrasives.
